For three decades, Jackie Ansley has been involved in enriching athletes in all sports of multiple levels, first as a standout basketball player, later as an accomplished prep coach, and most recently as the innovative director of a specialized exercise conditioning program endorsed by some of the leading athletes and coaches around the world.
Since founding her companies, Sports Excel in 1998 and Performance Training, Inc. (PTI), in 1995, Ansley has been a sought-after clinician and speaker. The premise behind her training programs is to increase and utilize speed, agility and quickness (SAQ) in training and athletic performance. Her dynamic and innovative approach to training has taken her across the country as a clinician, speaker and presenter for such groups as the 1997-2012 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Convention, 2009 NSCAA, the 1998-2000, 1999 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) veterans training camps and combine for future WNBA players, 2001, 2002 AAHPERD Regional Convention, and the 1999 Cramer Conference for Olympic athletes, Polish Basketball Federation June 2009 and 2010 and the German Basketball Federation Coaches Clinic 2010. Jackie has had the opportunity to be the work with and/or be the Strength coach for many professional men and women’s teams nationally and around the world such as the Samsung Thunder (Korean Basketball Association men’s professional basketball team), the Atlanta Dream (WNBA Women’s professional basketball team), Detroit Shock (WNBA women’s professional basketball team), Washington Mystics (WNBA women’s professional basketball team), Adidas draft camp, Nike elite draft camp and others. She is also serving as the Klub Start Basketball Club (Men’s Polish Professional League formerly Asseco Prokom) Trainer 2009-2013, a consultant to Nike and Guest speaker at the German Basketball Federation Coaches Clinic in 2010.
The WNBA has utilized Ansley’s services since the beginning of the league for many of the team’s training camps, as a consultant to their training mission, along with the Veterans Camp each year. Among her top men and women’s professional basketball clients have been superstars Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Renee Montgomery, Ivory Latta, Kara Lawson, Monqiue Currie, Chamique Holdsclaw, Sue Bird, Katie Smith, Alexis Hornbuckle, Tamecka Dixon, Candace Parker, Becky Hammon, Tamika Catchings, Coco Miller, Lindsay Harding, and Michelle Snow. In all, Ansley has tutored over 130 professional basketball players in her training system.
Ansley’s training techniques have also been utilized by some of the top collegiate men and women’s basketball teams in the nation including eight-time national champion University of Tennessee, Wake Forest, University of Arizona, University of Illinois, Xavier, North Carolina State, Penn State, Purdue, Wichita State, Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Duke and Stanford just to mention a few.
In addition to her own companies and personal consultation and training in Knoxville, Tennessee, Ansley has expanded into a facility in Suwanee, GA called the Suwanee Sports Academy. Ansley and PTI are responsible for training at three locations in Knoxville, Fort Sanders Health and Fitness Center, RBI Training Facility and Cherokee Country Club. Ansley has developed programs and worked with athletes from the middle school age all the way through to the professional ranks of various sports. She has developed programs and training regimens for a variety of athletes including basketball, baseball, football, hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, tri-athletes, boxers, and volleyball competitors. Ansley has had the opportunity to work with the Women’s Heavyweight World Titleholder, Vonda Ward, and design footwork drills for her explosiveness and foot speed while also spending time training the University of Tennessee’s football team, University of Tennessee soccer team and the 2001-2002 IPFL Championship Football Team, the Tennessee ThunderCats, designing their entire strength and conditioning program to help bring home the “Trophy.”
In 2009, Ansley signed to be a premier provider of Nike’s SPARQ training system and is representing and training throughout the United States for Nike athletes, teams and corporations. Ansley has toured the country and broadened herself to international trips for lectures and hands on training while conducting camps, clinics and individual training in SAQ.
Before she entered the world of fitness training, Ansley was an exceptional high school coach. In the coaching arena, she combined her love of teaching and instruction of the game serving as an accomplished high school coach for nine years. She turned Central High School (Knoxville, Tenn.) into a team to be reckoned with and while at Sevier County High School (Sevierville, Tenn.) her teams advanced to the Tennessee State Sports Athletic Association tournament. While at Sevier County H.S., Ansley’s teams among some of the best in the state of Tennessee as well as being nationally ranked. Her teams were often found traveling to prestigious high school tournaments across the nation. She led her teams to several district 4AAA, regional 3AAA and tournament championships; attaining “Coach of the Year” accolades for multiple years. Fourteen high school student-athletes who were under the tutelage of Ansley received college scholarships with over half going into NCAA Division I programs.
As a collegiate hoopster, she was the starting point guard for Virginia Tech (1981-84) where she received a slew of honors including Athlete of the Year. In 1983, she was invited to participate in the United States Pan American Basketball Games team trials and training camp. A top student as well, Ansley was a Dean’s List honoree while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education Math from Virginia Tech in 1985.
Jared graduated with his B.S. degree in Exercise Physiology with a strong emphasis in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 2000. While attending college, he was on scholarship for basketball competing with the National Qualifying Team. Jared has been employed by Performance Training, Inc. since August 2002. He started out as a director in Columbus, Ohio then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and for the last eight years he has been a personal coach and director in Knoxville, Tennessee. Jared has had the privilege of training thousands of athletes ranging from the middle and high school ages through the collegiate, professional, and Olympic ranks. He has worked with athletes such as Katie Smith (WNBA & 2004 US Olympic Team), Melvin Simmons (USC Football & 49’ers), Justin Hamilton (Virginia Tech), Curtis Terry (Ohio State University), Tamika Catchings (WBNA & NCAA two-time Lady Volunteer National Champion), Jermaine Tate (University of Cincinnati & European League) and many others. Jared has played a key role with Jackie Ansley at various events such as high school coaches’ clinics, several WBCA Conventions, NFSA Convention, and NSCAA Convention, as well training multiple colleges and universities across the United States and most recently in Poland.
Bryan Rodriguez has been part of the Performance Training, Inc (PTI) staff as a personal trainer and a sports specific training coach since June of 2007. Bryan earned his Bachelors Degree in Education and Science, majoring in Exercise Science at the University of Tennessee. While attending UT, he was an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Lady Vols Soccer and Rowing teams. Before moving to Knoxville in 2000, he played 4 years of varsity soccer in high school and continued his soccer career at the collegiate level in Washington. Bryan is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer & Health and Fitness Instructor who has a passion for assisting athletes with extended rehabilitation and helping others reach their maximum potential. His passion for extended rehab and athletic performance has driven him to prevent injuries in athletes as he plays a role in leading the Knee Injury Prevention program designed by Sports Metrics. He is now the Director of Operations of Performance Training, Inc. and oversees Cherokee Country Club, Holston Hills Country Club, and several of the PTI Corporate Wellness programs in Knoxville.
Nina comes to Performance Training, Inc. after an extensive background in training and coaching. She served as a women’s basketball coach at University of Miami for 9 years. During her time at UM, she worked with the strength coach to develop the team’s strength program and with Jackie Ansley on the team’s (SAQ) training.
She has been part of the Performance Training staff as a personal trainer and a sports specific training coach since February of 2010. Her role now is the Director of Chattanooga Country Club’s Fitness Training for PTI. During her time with PTI Nina has worked in multiple settings from managing coporate wellness contracts to training collegate and professional athletes. Her training knowledge includes strength, speed, agility and quickness (SAQ), core, Olympic lifts, boot camps, spinning, half marathons, and Spartan races.
Nina graduated from University of Miami in 1995 after playing basketball for four years.
Keven grew up on a farm in Minnesota where he learned first hand the benefits of hard work. He developed a passion for exercise during his highschool years after joining his school’s Acrosport team. Keven was accepted to Andrews University in 2007 where he continued on in his passion for gymnastics and acrosport by joining the Andrews University Gymnics. He served as captain from the 2011-13 school years and specialized in trampoline/wall, teeterboard portering, double-base stunting, and pyramid development. The Andrews University Gymnics performed for the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers along with the Oakland University Basketball program in Detroit on several occasions. During the summer of 2012 Gymnics was invited to perform for the Indiana Fever as well.
Keven graduated with a B.S. in Exercise and Fitness from Andrews University and holds a ACE CPT. He intends on using his experience in team Acrosport and exercise to help train clients to reach their full potential.
Clayton grew up in Colorado where he excelled in football earning first team All-Conference honors in high school. He would then go on to play linebacker at the NCAA level for Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. Clayton continued to make athletics and football a part of his life playing four years at the semi-pro level in Colorado and California. He is now part of our team at PTI as our education coordinator. Clayton is an ISSA certified personal trainer and has a passion in developing and preparing young athletes to compete at the next level.
Alan began his training at an early age in Southern Ohio, learning of yoga as a philosophic exercise system from his father. In 2001 he began his martial arts career with Grandmaster Don Madden (founder of the American Karate and Jujitsu Union – AKJU and former TeamUSA head coach). At only 14 Alan began teaching and competing. Under the banner of the AKJU, Alan has traveled, fought and taught in over four countries, representing Team America. His successes even earned him induction into the Eastern USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
Alan has dedicated his life to the pursuits and studies of yoga and the martial arts. Studying in over six styles of martial art and numerous yogic styles, he is known for his unique understanding, compassion, and deep philosophic connection to the roots and traditions he has studied.
In 2011 Alan Burgess first began teaching internationally, working with instructors and trainers in Thailand, China and the Philippines. Since then his studies have broadened to include personal training, weight lifting and an integrated style of total body fitness. By including internal martial arts and yogic practices with the functional strength of resistance training Alan has a broad spectrum of knowledge.
Since joining PTI in August of 2013 Alan has been hard at work helping clients achieve weight loss goals, while improving the strength, flexibility and, balance of his clients. Alan is certified through the NSCA.

Jazimen graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelors in Exercise Science and Masters in Sports Management. Played division 1 basketball at Wichita State under Jody Adams and Bridgette Gordon former Lady vols all four years. Jazimen helped build a program from last place to a championship program! Through traveling the world and years of basketball Jazimen discovered her passion for human performance. During her grad years she took several opportunities for practical experience by working under the Witchita State strength coach, working at a local strength gym and work for USA Basketball all while taking on some performance responsibilities with her team! Jazimen’s passion is to encourage, develop, and build strong athletes.
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Kris moved to Knoxville, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work. After college, Kris found her passion for fitness and began teaching group fitness classes and then later on added personal training. Kris currently holds six certifications which include Barre, Yoga and Indoor Cycling. She brings over 15 years of fitness experience to the program and looks forward working with the Holston Hills Country Club members in reaching all their wellness and fitness goals.
Nick Woodard is a native of Houston, Texas. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a concentration in Business Management. Nick began jumping rope at the age of 6 with a team called Razz-Ma-Tazz and has now been actively involved with the sport for 23 years. Throughout Nick’s jump rope career he has been blessed with many opportunities to travel around the world promoting the sport through workshops, exhibitions, shows, competitions, etc. He has earned several titles including Grand National Champion and Grand World Champion. Notably, in 2012, Nick received the honor of jumping at the Olympic Games in London with Get Tricky, a well-known jump rope performance group. Nick has also performed with Cirque du Soleil, jumped for several television networks, and been featured on a documentary called JUMP!
Additionally, Nick is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He is devoted to personal training because he is passionate about helping clients to succeed in the same way he has helped athletes to succeed over the past 15 years.
Megan grew up in Vincent, Ohio where she excelled in Track and Cross Country. She earned All Academic and Athletic Conference Honors and holds the school record with her 4X800 Relay Team in high school. She received the All Academic Achievement Award for Cross Country and Track & Field, Archie Griffin Achievement Award, and Loren Weinstock Leadership and Integrity Award. She went on to run track and cross country for West Liberty University, earning scholarships and awards for her achievements. She is a graduate of West Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology with a Clinical Concentration.
Megan‘s high energy, confident professionalism and infectious enthusiasm for helping people realize their potential and the importance of maintaining a healthy level of fitness and nutrition is her passion.
Jeff, a native of Memphis, TN, graduated from Auburn University with an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science (2004) and master’s in Exercise Science (2006) with an emphasis on Exercise Physiology. From 2000-2003 Jeff worked as an undergraduate athletic training intern with Auburn’s Football and Track and Field teams. Since 2003, he has primarily been involved with strength and conditioning for the collegiate athlete with coaching experience at Auburn, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the University of Central Oklahoma. Jeff has had the privilege of coaching numerous team and individual National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Conference, Regional, and National Champions. He has also trained many professional athletes including World Championship medalists and champion (track and field), Olympic medalists (track and field), and a U.S. Amateur Champion (golf).
Jeff’s training and hobbies include: weightlifting, powerlifting, circuit training, and sport specific speed, agility, and plyometric training, triathlon, cycling, mountain biking, and general fitness.
He has been a member of, and obtained certifications through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and USA Weightlifting.
Keresa grew up in the Seattle, Washington area and obtained a softball scholarship to Belhaven University where she graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science. From there, she attended the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga where she graduated with a 3.8 GPA in 2013 obtaining her Master of Science in Athletic Training Education. Over the years, Keresa has been employed as a personal trainer in both large class settings and, additionally, smaller personal settings. These intimate environments with specific and individualized training plans catered to the needs and interests of each unique client. In addition to her experience as a personal trainer, Keresa spent years as a full time athletic trainer at a local high school, where she worked closely with athletes and coaches, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating various types of injuries.
Keresa has always been very active and has invariably made physical fitness and exercising a high priority in her life. In addition to completing multiple marathons over the past few years, Keresa successfully completed the 2016 Ironman in Chattanooga, TN. Keresa looks forward to using her athletic and personal training skills and experience to help others progress towards their goals and to achieve success.
Darren has been a part of athletics his entire life. His natural athleticism and his excitement for physical activity led him to be involved with a wide variety of sports throughout his young life: football, soccer, volleyball, and gymnastics.
After high school, Darren came down to Collegedale, Tennessee to attend Southern Adventist University. While in college, he joined the university’s gymnastics team, the “Gymmasters.” During his five years on the team, he had the opportunity to perform half-time shows at local colleges such as UTC (University of Tennessee, Chattanooga), and Lee University. Additionally, he had the opportunity to perform a half-time show for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association. Furthermore, Darren worked as a gymnastics coach during the 2013-2016 school years for children and teenagers, and eventually became the assistant director of the university’s kids gymnastics program.
Darren graduated with a B.S. in Sports Studies: Human Performance from Southern Adventist University, and holds a Personal Training certification from American Council on Exercise. He intends to use his passion for fitness and sport to help cultivate that same passion into his clients so they can attain their own fitness goals.
Charlene, a professional athlete turned fitness chef is the creative mind behind Stoopid Good Food Productions. During her time playing professional basketball overseas Charlene created a nutrition system to help her perform at the highest level. For over 15 years Charlene has been utilizing her knowledge of the body and food to help herself and her clients. Since discovering her own food intolerance Charlene has expanded her vision of how food affects the body. She began to create food to fit a growing niche of food intolerance, allergies and illnesses, including Diabetes and Hypertension.
Today she has been coined a “Fit Life Visionary” for her work helping clients to increase their quality of life. Charlene views the body as a whole, and has helped to combine the effects of a healthy and positive body and mind into one great system.
Megan is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a B.S. degree in Nutrition as well as Food Science. She went on to pursue a dietetic internship with Utah State University to earn her Registered Dietitian credential and completed her Master’s Degree in Dietetic Administration. For the past 3 years, she has served as a clinical dietitian in the Knoxville area. She is knowledgeable on various disease processes and how nutrition plays a role in treatment. She stays up-to-date on the latest research to stay informed of the ever-evolving nutritional guidelines. Additionally, Megan has a passion for sports and loves the opportunity to combine her two passions of nutrition and performance; she is a former intern of Allison Mauer, a renowned pioneer in the sports nutrition world.
Megan believes food is fuel, and the type of food consumed determines how well our bodies run. Megan believes in a healthy, balanced diet that is based on whole foods, but also believes God made cupcakes for a reason! In a world full of fad diets and defining health as a number on the scale, food has gained a negative connotation that she wishes to change. Finding happiness in your own skin CAN come from delicious food.
