Incredible story from our corporate wellness director Keven Burdorf and our friend Sherri!

When Sherri began working with PTI in 2016 she was mentally stressed out by being overweight. She expressed that she did not feel good physically but even more did not like who she saw in the mirror. She had thrown in the towel on her weight and felt that working with us was her last resort. It did not take long for her to find a passion for running. It started out slowly but over time she was able to run faster and for greater distances. In class she was exposed to what a balanced diet is supposed to look like and she immediately began implementing it at home with her family. After 9 months Sherri was almost a completely different person physically however her mental attitude had done a complete 180. She was all smiles and energy, she had found her happiness again.

Recently I was contacted by Sherri and asked to run a 5k with her, her first one ever. I was honored by the request and accepted. Since I had not seen her in several months I was unprepared for the Sherri that I met at the race. She had smashed her weight loss goal out of the park and had kept faithful to her new found lifestyle. She now looks amazing and is looking to run more races now that she knows she has trained properly for it. We are so proud of Sherri and all that she has accomplished.Keven & Sherri!

Stretching tips for athletes!

We all know the saying “If you don’t use it, you lose it” but what about all the information wrapped in between the lines? You know, the things that you become interested in knowing only when it applies to you! For example, when you decide to do that 5K with a friend and you’ve heard that it can be beneficial to stretch but you have no idea as to exactly how or why? Here is some information that you may find beneficial when it comes to understanding the full benefits of stretching!

-Warming-up (ex. light jog) BEFORE stretching can help improve joint flexibility and achieve a higher range of motion! Just think about it, lets relate your body to an oven!  When you want your best results do you just throw all the ingredients in and then turn the oven on, or do you warm the oven up first?  By warming that core temperature of your body before stretching you can improve the elasticity of your muscles and better prepare you for your competition or sudden external forces (minimize injury)! Just remember to not over stretch before activity. Keep it simple and only hold your stretches for a maximum of 20 seconds

Stretching after activity can improve the longevity of your flexibility! While your muscles are warm and elongated you can stretch to preserve the increased lengthening from activity! And remember stretching is a skill and with time it can have a huge positive impact on performance and  your normal activity/routine.

Congratulations to Ginny Rogers!

Her tumor marker numbers have dropped from 288 in August to 193 just before Thanksgiving! We are so proud of her dedication to exercise and fitness. Keep it up Ginny!!!
